The recent $1.86 billion Forrestfield-Airport Link is a project delivering a new rail service to the eastern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia.
As a part of this project, the PTA rails were required to be relocated towards the existing gas and water mains metallic pipelines at Bayswater.
Our team was engaged by Salini Impregilo from NRW Joint Venture to work on this project. It was our job was to perform all the required site Earth Potential Rise (EPR) & Low-Frequency Induction (LFI) measurements before and after Bayswater Traction relocation and energisation.
PowerEarth performed:
- the required liaison with major stakeholders. We obtained the input system information and site accesses to perform the required site testing,
- site testing and site data collection. This included EPR and LFI measurements. These measurements were both before and after Bayswater Traction Relocation and energisation,
- earthing systems modelling of PTA traction and other underground asset owners. This was done using 3D CDEGS software,
- assessment of the AC interferences of PTA traction. Assessment of other underground asset owners earthing systems, and
- verified system modelling forecasts. This was achieved by comparing with the site test results after PTA 25kV AC traction line relocation and energisation.
We established a good correlation between the site measurements and the system modelling demonstrated by comparing site test results before and after PTA 25kV AC traction line relocation and energisation.
We successfully fulfilled all project requirements. The project earthing designs were delivered in a well-planned, informative, effective and cost-efficient manner.
Staff involved on behalf of PowerEarth included H. Dehbonei (performed and prepared).
